At Riverside Academy we believe that the children’s experience of history should be as practical and immersive as possible, in order to develop an enjoyment of the subject and a greater understanding of how and why people behaved in the way they did in the past.

We encourage the children to express and record their understanding of historical events and periods in a range of ways, making particular use of drama and role-play. Frequently, history topics are incorporated into literacy, art and design technology lessons.

Local sites of historical interest are used wherever possible, such as Warwick Castle, Coventry Cathedral and buildings in and around Rugby or Newbold itself.

Visits from experts or people with experiences related to our topics are always welcomed and if you or a family member would like to contribute to the children’s history experience, please contact us and we will be delighted to make arrangements.
