History

At Riverside Academy we provide a history curriculum which ensures that all children are provided with challenging and memorable learning opportunities which raises aspirations and allows them to become confident historians. We aim for children to have secure knowledge of British history, including history in our own locality, as well as an understanding of significant historical aspects of the wider world. Through our history curriculum, children are inspired to find out how the world has changed over time. They identify and question causes, changes, similarities and differences between the eras studied, as well as in Britain today, based on their acquired knowledge and understanding. Progressive subject specific history vocabulary is used to describe the passing of time and enable our children to explain key concepts that the children explore. Our children develop their own understanding of Britain’s past by using reading as a driver to explore what life was like in the past and the changes that happened for people during different eras. Local sites of historical interest are used wherever possible, such as Warwick Castle, Coventry Cathedral and buildings in and around Rugby or Newbold itself.
