Riverside Academy Mathematics Intent

At Riverside Academy, we are passionate about ensuring that all children are provided with challenging and memorable learning opportunities to enable them to be confident and fluent mathematicians. We aim for all children to be secure in their knowledge and understanding of the number system; this will enable them to calculate efficiently and accurately, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle a range of mathematical problems. Understanding and using key mathematical vocabulary across the full maths curriculum is hugely important to us as it allows children to access and articulate their learning. Confidence in mathematics is a fundamental aspect of a child’s development and is essential in ensuring that they are ready for the next steps in their education beyond. Our mathematics curriculum is derived from the White Rose scheme of learning from Reception to Year 6 to ensure learning is sequenced and progressive. The Early Years Foundation Stage mathematics curriculum is further supported by the Master the Curriculum White Rose supporting scheme of learning and resources.
